About the movement
A wide-stance squat that shifts the emphasis to your glutes and inner thighs. The sumo squat is beginner friendly and easy on the knees.
How to do it
- 1
Stand with your feet wider than shoulder width and toes pointed out about 45 degrees.
- 2
Hold a dumbbell at chest height or let it hang between your legs.
- 3
Sit down between your hips, keeping your knees tracking over your toes.
- 4
Drive through your whole foot back to standing, squeezing your glutes at the top.
Form tips
- •Keep your chest up and your knees pushed out the whole way down.
- •Sit low enough that your thighs reach at least parallel.
- •Narrower stance targets quads, wider targets glutes and inner thighs.
